Meet Coach Michelle Whyte

Michelle Whyte has been a dedicated sportsperson since childhood, participating in a wide range of activities, including gymnastics, hockey, soccer, and volleyball. Her passion for volleyball began in junior high and has continued throughout her life, leading her to become a committed coach. She started coaching youth sports at the age of 17 and has remained actively involved in volleyball coaching and playing, even serving as a Level 1 referee.

In addition to her coaching roles, Michelle is deeply involved in the administrative side of the sport. She serves on the Board for SAS Thunder Volleyball Club and as the Director at Large – North for Volleyball Alberta, a position she has held for nearly eight years. Her work extends to the national level, where she has been involved with Volleyball Canada as Tournament Support since 2018. Michelle also spends time coaching at St. Albert Catholic High School and supporting her former players in various youth leagues in the Greater Edmonton Area.

Michelle’s coaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of relationships, experiences, and competition (REC). She believes that while the specifics of competitions may fade, the connections and experiences made through the sport are lasting. Michelle is committed to the development of her players both on and off the court, and she continues to learn and grow as a coach, player, and person, maintaining a strong network of coach mentors who share her passion for volleyball.
